Sciebo - die Campuscloud
Using the desktop client
Download and installation
and choose the client according to your operating system.
Open the downloaded file and install the client.
After successful installation, you can start the client.
Next, you have to login using your sciebo ID and your sciebo password. Your sciebo ID is made up of your ID and your institution (in the format your-ID@your-institution.de).
Now you can choose a local folder on your computer for the synchronisation with sciebo. Furthermore, you can decide whether you want to synchronize all elements or only specific folders. For this, click on „Zu synchronisierende Elemente auswählen“ and choose a custom location for synchronisation. Do not choose a folder within the installation directory of the sciebo Client. Click on "Verbinden.." to move on.
You have set up the Desktop-Client successfully and the client begins to synchronize the chosen sciebo directories with your computer.
We do not recommend to synchronize a network drive. This might result in an unstable synchronization. For example, the client could interpret an interruption to the network drive as an intended delete instruction by the user.
Overview of the client's functionalities
To make further settings or view error messages, you can open the client using the icon in your taskbar.
Selecting the tab „Benutzerkonto“, you will get information on how much storage space you have left and about the local directories you have chosen for synchronization. Here you can also select the sciebo directories and the local directories on your computer that are to be synchronized.
Selecting the tab "Aktivität", you can view a history of your uploaded and downloaded files.
Selecting the tab „Allgemein“, you can specifiy whether the desktop client starts when your system starts and whether you want to see notifications from the client on your desktop. Besides, the version of your client is displayed.
Selecting the tab "Netzwerk“, you can limit your download and upload rate. This can be useful if you encounter problems with the performance of your computer or your internet bandwith.
Synchronizing specific directories
The desktop client allows for the synchronization of specific parts of your sciebo directory to different local directories on your computer. This can be useful, when you use your sciebo account for multiple purposes on multiple computers. For example, you can synchronize data for teaching only with your personal computer, whereas you can synchronize data for research only with the computer in your office.
Selecting the tab "Benutzerkonto", you can add a local directory by clicking on "Ordner hinzufügen". Here you can specify which parts of your sciebo directory will be synchronized and where the folder will be located on your computer.
Folders created this way will be displayed as synchronization directories ("Studium, "Bescheinigungen" and "Forschung" in the picture). These directories can by customized at any time.
To pause the synchronization of one specific directory, select the directory and click on "Anhalten".
To remove the synchronizatoin of one specific directory, select the directory and click on "Entfernen". This will not delete any data on you computer or in your sciebo directory, but only end synchronization from this point on.
To customize which parts of your sciebo directory will be synchronized to a specific folder, you can click on "zu synchronisierende Elemente auswählen".
